Symptom(s): You installed an application in Mac OSX, but unable to launch or open it. This message appears when you do:
“NameOfApp.app” can’t be opened because it is from an unidentified developer.
Your security preference allow installation of only apps from the Mac App Store and identified developers.
An example of this type of message is when opening the Tor Browser app
Resolution(s): By default Mac OSX does not allow unidentified developer applications to be opened because they may pose a security risk since they have not been verified officially.
To bypass this and execute the application:
1. Search for the application in finder
2. Hold down the “control” key and click on the application and select open
3. The application will launch and give the option to click open
4. To proceed, simply click open
